An Owsumly Inspiring Experience: A Summit Like No Other!
The second edition of the Our Own Education Summit (OWSUM) was a resounding success, held on August 29, 2024, at Our Own English High School Sharjah, Girls. The summit, themed "A Confluence of the Learned and the Learner," showcased a vibrant atmosphere of collaboration, innovation, and empowerment.
Key highlights included the launch of the Arabic Climate Guide ‘Daleel Al-Monakh’ by our esteemed guests Mr. Johannes Bodenstein, Educational Advisor - SPEA; Ms. Rana Nazzal, school development and improvement expert - SPEA; Mr. Michael Guzder, Senior Vice President Indian Schools at GEMS Education; and Ms. Asma Gilani, Principal, Our Own English High School (Girls) Sharjah. The guide is a vital resource for educating the younger generation about climate change.
The summit also featured the Recycle Runway Season-8 which this year embraced the theme of Bridal Couture, showcasing sustainable fashion designs; and workshops focusing on holistic development, including mental and physical well-being, personal storytelling, and confidence building.
Industry experts led sessions on topics like 'Pioneering Paths Beyond Tradition,' empowering students to navigate the modern world. Workshops for students of all ages covered various subjects, from graphic designing and entrepreneurship to creative writing, emotional intelligence, robotics, art, and nutrition.
A standout feature was the car maintenance workshop for teachers and senior school students, conducted by Mr. Pranav Joshi from DNATA. This practical session empowered women with essential life skills.
Principal Asma Gilani emphasized the importance of holistic education in preparing students for the future. Owsum Season 2 was a testament to this commitment, fostering collaboration, innovation, and student empowerment.

At the Codeavour 5.0 UAE National Championship held at Amity University Dubai on April 27, 2024, 2 teams from OOS under the senior category, Team THE UX(Thanusri Thirunarayanan, Christina Johnson, Aavani Balan), and Team Tech Ventures( Malakh Sharafuddin, Lavanya Keshav Vaity, Lipica Anoop), emerged as gold and silver winners, respectively.
