At Our Own English High School, Sharjah- Girls, the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of our students, staff, and parents are at the heart of everything we do. We are dedicated to creating a supportive, inclusive, and thriving environment where everyone feels valued and empowered.

Well-being refers to the policies, practices, and initiatives we have in place to support the emotional, mental, and physical health of our school community. This includes:

  3. PSHE Curriculum Guided by SEL & PERMAH:

     

    Our PSHE curriculum is structured around the SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) and PERMAH (Well-being) models to support students’ personal growth and resilience.

    What Is SEL & PERMAH?    

              SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) Model : Focuses on five key areas essential for emotional and social development:

    • Self-awareness & Self-management – Understanding emotions, managing stress, and setting goals.
    • Social awareness & Relationship skills – Developing empathy, teamwork, and effective communication.
    • Responsible decision-making – Making ethical and thoughtful choices.

                PERMAH Model :  Promotes well-being through:

    • Positive Emotions (optimism), Engagement (deep learning), Relationships (social support),
    • Meaning (purpose), Achievement (goal-setting), and Health (physical & mental wellness).

      By integrating these models, our PSHE curriculum:

    • Builds emotional resilience and coping skills.
    • Encourages healthy relationships and social skills.
    • Promotes digital safety and responsible behavior.
    • Prepares students for life challenges.
  4. Safe Environment:
    • Access Control & Security: Controlled entry points, visitor check-in procedures, and CCTV surveillance for campus safety.
    • Cyber Safety Measures: Secure internet access, monitored online activities, and digital safety awareness programs.
    • Emergency Response Plans: Regular fire drills, evacuation procedures, and medical emergency preparedness.
    • Health & Safety Measures: First-aid facilities, air quality monitoring, hygiene protocols, and regular weather updates by the medical team to ensure student safety during extreme conditions.
    • Inclusive Infrastructure: Lift chair access, ramps, and designated safe zones for students with special needs.
    • Playground & Outdoor Safety: Supervised play areas, anti-slip surfaces, and shaded rest zones to prevent heat-related issues.
    • Transport Safety: Trained bus staff, GPS tracking, and emergency response systems in school transport.
  5. Reporting and Support System:
    • Clear processes for seeking help and reporting concerns about well-being.
    • Immediate and appropriate action to support individuals in need.

Our Well-being Initiatives
